What is Northants IVC?
Northants IVC is a non-profit making activity club, providing its' members with a wide variety of social, recreational, cultural and sporting activities in a friendly, relaxed environment. The emphasis is on making new friends who share your interests. It's also a great place to try out some new activities with others who enjoy them.
We are NOT a singles club OR a dating agency!

What type of people are members?
There is no "typical" member, just a common desire for a varied social life in friendly company. We are not a singles club and we have no religious or political affiliations. Most members are professional or like-minded individuals in their 20's, 30's & 40's and generally have attended some form of further education. Many have moved into the area and are looking to make new friends or are just looking for a more active social life.
We're still fairly careful about deciding on membership of IVC, though. Event organisers open up their events, and often their homes, to all members and prospectives so we try to make sure that anyone who comes along to these events is known to at least a handful of people.

Do you have age limits ?
Some IVC’s do set an upper age limit for new members, usually 40. Our group does not, although the age range of the current membership is between mid/late 20's and mid 40's.

Do I have to be a graduate to join ?
No. Originally, IVC was set up by and for graduates. Non-graduates and graduates must have their applications considered by the committee to see if they are "like-minded people".
Nowadays, in practice anyone who comes along for a few weeks and seems to fit in with us will be accepted. We have members from various walks of life - managers, teachers, nurses, administrators, engineers, technicians, lawyers, dentists, programmers, mature students, or even professional people seeking work. What matters is that you share some of our common interests, whether sporting, cultural or social.

How much does it cost?
The club is non-profit making. There is no initial joining fee but everyone pays a modest annual subscription which covers the costs of producing the bulletin (monthly newsletter) and general overheads.
Single membership costs £30 a year. Joint membership (two people receiving one bulletin at the same address) costs £40 a year. There is a discount of £10 for members putting on more than five events in the preceding year.
There is also usually a nominal cost for each event, split between those who attend. This means that if you go to the theatre you pay for your ticket, or share the cost of any meal you go to etc. You simply join in with whatever you choose and can afford.

Are there any other IVC Clubs around the country?
There are 45 IVC clubs, all affiliated to the Association of Inter Varsity Clubs. AIVC provides the chance to travel to other parts of the country with accommodation and entertainment at modest cost. It's a great way to enjoy an instant social life when you are new in town & don't know anyone. Also if you know friends in other parts of the country, please let them know about IVC if there is a club in their area. Follow this link to see details of other IVC Clubs on the web.
